Reckon/Quickbooks – Unable to send your email to Outlook – Possible solutions

images/question.pngA client called saying they got a message that Reckon said “unable to send your email to Outlook. Close Outlook windows and try again”.

There can be several causes for failure, and the following is taken from the Intuit support site which is a nice step-by-step process to follow with possible solutions (http://support.Reckon/Quickbooks.intuit.com/support/articles/SLN40921). The following solutions are given why this is happening:

This error may be caused by:

  1. Your email preference being set incorrectly.
  2. A damaged MAPI32.dll. file.

How to fix it

Intuit recommends several solutions for this problem. The first solution may solve your problem, or you may need to try all of them to resolve the issue. For best results, perform the solutions in the order shown.

Solution 1: Ensure that your email preference is set correctly in Reckon/Reckon/Quickbooks

Note: If you use Microsoft Outlook with Microsoft Exchange Server, open Outlook and login before checking the Reckon/Quickbooks preference.

  1. Choose Edit > Preferences > Send Forms.

  2. Click the My Preferences tab, set Send e-mail using to the option that you want to use and click OK.

  3. Close Reckon/Quickbooks and all other programs.

  4. Restart Windows.

  5. Restart Reckon/Quickbooks.

  6. Email the report or transaction.

If the error still occurs, try solution 2.

Solution 2: Ensure that your email preference is set correctly in Internet Explorer

  1. Close Reckon/Quickbooks.

  2. Open Internet Explorer.

  3. Click on Tools Internet Options.

  4. Click on the Programs tab.

  5. In the Programs tab, make sure the correct email program is selected as the default email program. For example, if you are trying to send email using Outlook, be sure Outlook is selected. If you are trying to send email using Outlook Express, be sure Outlook Express is chosen. Select the correct option, then click Apply and OK.

  6. Close Internet Explorer.

  7. Open Reckon/Quickbooks.

  8. Email the report or transaction.

If the error still occurs, try solution 3.

Solution 3: Toggle the email preference settings

  1. Open Reckon/QuickBooks. Choose Edit > Preferences > Send Forms.

  2. Click the My Preferences tab, select Reckon/Quickbooks E-mail, and then click OK.

  3. Choose Edit > Preferences.

  4. Select Outlook and click OK.

  5. Email the report or transaction.

If the error still occurs, try solution 4.

Solution 4: (If you are using Windows 7 or Vista) Make sure Reckon/Quickbooks is not running in Compatibility Mode

  1. Close Reckon/Quickbooks.

  2. Right-click the Reckon/Quickbooks icon on the desktop and select Properties.

  3. In the Properties window, click the Compatibility tab.

  4. In the Compatibility Mode section, make sure that the checkbox labelled "Run this program in compatibility mode for" is not checked.

  5. Click OK.

  6. Open Reckon/Quickbooks and try to email the report or transaction.

If the error still occurs, try solution 5.

Solution 5: Test your MAPI32.dll by emailing a document from Microsoft Word

  1. Restart your computer to close and reopen Windows.

  2. Open a blank document in Microsoft Word.

  3. Choose File > Send > Email as PDF Attachment..

  4. If the email opens with no errors, contact Reckon/Quickbooks Technical Support for assistance.

  5. If the error occurs when attaching the document, contact Microsoft Help and Support to resolve possible issues with Outlook or Office Suite and the MAPI settings.

  6. Once the issue is resolved and email works from Microsoft Word, email the report or transaction from Reckon/QuickBooks.

Note: If you can email from Microsoft Word but you can't email from QuickBooks, contact QuickBooks Technical Support for assistance.

If the error still occurs, try solution 6.

Solution 6: Repair MAPI32.dll

  1. Close all open programs.

  2. Click the Windows Start button and select Computer (in Windows XP, select My Computer).

  3. Go to C > Windows > System32.

  4. Double-click Fixmapi.exe and follow any onscreen instructions.

  5. Reboot your computer after Fixmapi.exe finishes running.

  6. If still not resolved do a clean install of Reckon/QuickBooks.

Solution 7: Repair M Office
