Query - A customer emailed saying they found Reckon/Quickbooks had not accepted a Tax File Number (TFN) when setting up an employee card.
Answer –
1. First, check there are 8 or 9 digits in the TFN.
2. Second, Reckon/Quickbooks in later versions, has an in-built tester to validate a TFN – at a post at Wikipedia, it is explained that the ATO uses an algorithm “based on simple modulo[3]
(As an) example - given the TFN `123456782`, can be checked by the following process

The sum of the numbers 1 + 8 + 9 + 28 + 25 + 48 + 42 + 72 + 20 = 253.
253 is a multiple of 11 (11 × 23 = 253). Therefore, the number is valid.
Reckon uses the number check to validate the TFN, so re-check the employee gave the correct TFN. If it is still not accepted, a call to Reckon will be required to solve a detailed Tech. issue – call Reckon Australia on 02 9577 5000
