An emailing invoice error that works for one version, not another due to MAPI installation requirements -
Client enquired –
I have been running Accounting Plus V18.
When I attempt to email an invoice I get the message: "An email session could not be started. Please check your MAPI installation".
I am trialing AccountRight Basics.
I can successfully email invoices using Thunderbird.
OK - I have scoured the forums and I get:
- Do not use 64bit (I'm not);
- Install Outlook as that is what MYOB supports (Yep but TB works with Basics);
- MAPI functions and how to use them;
- Set Thunderbird as default email (I have);
- Tried repairing/reinstalling V18 (no change in error).
Both MYOB programs are behaving differently yet using the same email set up .
Why can I email in AccountRight Basics but not in Accounting Plus V18 on the same Win 7 computer with the same email setup?
Solutions -
AccountRight Basics and Accounting Plus v18 run off two different email systems. AccountRight Basics runs off InterOp which is a more up to date email protocol. Whereas Accounting Plus v18 would run off MAPI which is an older version. Some email programs are better suited for different email protocols and thus I am not surprised that AccountRight Basics would work but Accounting Plus v18 doesn't.
As I am sure that you may have noticed elsewhere on the MYOB Community Forum, MYOB has tested and will only support Outlook 2010 or later (32bit versions only). I would recommend confirming with the developers of Thunderbird in regards to checking to make sure that your version of Thunderbird is full MAPI compatible and that you have the correct setup to allow Accounting Plus v18 to interact with it.

Thanks Steven - that clarifies the difference.
Running Thunderbird 31.2.0.
There are two types of MAPI implementations, SimpleMAPI and ExtendedMAPI. TB supports simple MAPI, but I understand MYOB V18 requires ExtendedMAPI.
